Slope Stability

We recently created a poll to ask you what slope stability software you were using, and it was answered by 109 people.

The very short poll consisted of four questions, and the results were as follows:

Question 1 was “What type of software do you prefer using for slope stability analysis?”, where 89 voted commercial, 28 freeware, 19 said they were using their own scripts, 4 were using their own scripts and 1 answered “other”. It is worth noting that in all questions, users were allowed to vote for multiple answers.

Question 2 was “Which software do you use for slope stability analysis (if you use one)?”, where users’ opinions were quite spread. However, Rocscience Slide2 came first with 46 votes, Seequent GeoStudio SLOPE/W came second with 36 votes and Bentley Plaxis 2D followed with 31 votes.

Question 3 was “Which method do you prefer using for slope stability analysis?”, where the vast majority of 78 users voted for the Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM) and 28 voted for the Finite Element Method (FEM).

Based on their previous vote, question 4 was asking for the specific method that the users preferred.

When it came to LEM, Spencer’s method tied for the first place with the Morgenstern and Price method with 38 user votes. Bishop’s method came second with 31 votes, while Janbu’s method followed with 15 votes. Finally, one person voted for “other”.

As for the FEM preferred methods, 2D FEM analysis came first with 19 votes, 3D FEM followed with 11, and the Finite Differences Method placed third with 5 votes.

Thank you all for voting on our poll!
